For Cities & Towns

Next Step Living works with cities and towns to develop and implement tailored residential energy efficiency programs. With the goal of achieving deep and lasting community impact, we help municipalities leverage available outside local, state, federal, and utility funding.

Cities and towns nationwide are receiving millions of dollars to make their communities more energy efficient.  While many of these cities and towns are spending public dollars to retrofit their municipal facilities, many have, and will continue to distribute these funds throughout their community in the form of home energy efficiency programs and services.

Making a real difference in your community

The programs that we develop aim to help reduce your municipal carbon footprint, benefit local residents who need it most, and create green careers within your city or town.  Community-based programs are our most effective means of creating the largest possible impact — benefiting residents, the local economy, and the climate.

Funding Leverage

Maximizing your local funding

We leverage utility subsidies, government grants, and outside funding sources  to stretch your local dollars as far as possible.  Our extensive knowledge of the energy efficiency landscape enables us to effectively implement programs, while our network of community relationships allows us to conduct comprehensive outreach and achieve maximum scale.

Job Creation

Creating local, green careers

Next Step Living is committed to hiring from the communities in which we implement these programs.  As we scale to meet the demand created by your municipal dollars, we in turn will hire candidates from within your community, helping to stimulate the local economy in more ways than one.

Positions include energy auditors, air sealing and insulation specialists, customer service personnel, and other management positions.  We offer training and experience that will help develop a sustainable skill set within a rapidly growing industry.  Furthermore, we are committed to exceeding living wage requirements.

Targeted Outreach

Helping those who need it most

We target homes that need it most from an income and energy standpoint. We do this by using our cutting-edge technology tools to identify the houses that could benefit the most from our work and focusing on middle-income residents who do not quality for the lower-income Weatherization Assistance Program and cannot afford expensive home remodeling projects. In doing this, not only do we help a demographic save money at a crucial time but we also identify important safety issues that could affect their health.

Renew Boston Pilot

Crystal Haynes, a Dorchester resident, spoke at the Renew Boston Pilot kick-off event in June 2009.  She describes how the Renew Boston residential energy efficiency initiative, which targets and subsidizes middle income families, is so valuable for homeowners like her, who do not qualify for federal assistance programs, but do not have the disposable income to afford important weatherization work.
